Land Protector

The intention behind this illustrative poster was to try and reach a broader audience that wouldn’t typically engage with the Land Back movement. Using the phrase ‘protect the land that raised you’ was aiming to provide an alternate perspective, and evoke an emotional response in those who may feel disconnected from environmental and indigenous activism as settlers here in Canada. Regardless of our ancestral roots – we have an obligation to preserve, defend and protect this land we have the privilege of calling home.

The terrarium-jar serves as an illustrative representation of that preservation; one which symbolizes the interconnected cycles of existence – the importance of death, renewal and regeneration. Both the phrasing and imagery are meant to emphasize our relationship with nature, and our everlasting role in its care.

So let this be a reminder to you, dear observer – we all have a duty to protect the land that’s given us everything, and that Indigenous communities should be positioned at the forefront of environmental movements, stewardship initiatives, and decisions about the land. We should be grateful for their enduring patience, astronomical wisdom and reliable counsel.
